First what does Fritidsgarn mean?
You probably already know that garn is Norwegian for yarn... while fritids means recreation or leisure. So this recreational yarn is made for casual, simple knitting projects.
The yarn itself is quite bulky, it works up to 15 stitches per 10cm on 5.5mm needles, making this wool great for knitting your first scarf, so you can see progress quickly and you get to work with larger needles to get started.
It's 100% Norwegian wool, which is great, it's soft and durable, but not as expensive as Merino. It also felts beautifully making this yarn fantastic for projects like slippers, baskets, or bags.
Being a chunky yarn you get 70m per 50g.
You can make:
- Adults felted slippers: 2-3 balls
- Ladies' size M jumper: 10 - 13 balls
- Large felted Christmas stocking: 7 balls
- Children's felted mittens: 3 balls
- Adults felted mittens: 4 balls
One thing you need to watch out for is caring for a garment that you choose not to felt. This is the same with most yarns, but do make sure you gently, handwash items that you don't want to felt.
